The Missouri Valley Beekeepers Association is a local group of bee enthusiasts that meet monthly to discuss bees, what's going on in the bee world, and how to handle and deal with these remarkable insects. You can become a beekeeper and discover how to take care of them, why they are so fascinating, and how to obtain honey.

Honey is probably the biggest reason that people decide to become

beekeepers, but there are many more advantages to having beehives, such as providing pollination for the plants in your area. Without bees, the flower, fruit, and vegetable variety we enjoy could not exist . The bee is truly an interesting creature and continues to amaze people all over the world.

We meet on the third Monday of every month at the Scenic Regional Library in Union, Missouri. We discuss problems that can arise in the hive, things that have been discovered, and general care of bees. We offer a beginners' beekeeping class in the spring of every year. This allows you to become acquainted with the hobby of beekeeping so you can decide for yourself if it is something you want to pursue. Once you feel you are comfortable with bees you can buy a hive from someone in our group, if you like, and start your experience. Although the first year you probably won't get any honey, (and you'll learn why), the following years make up for that.

To learn more about bees and see if you would be interested go to Beekeeping and read about the colony, and learn about the tools used in beekeeping.
